Phyllis “Sissy” Shipley, 79, of Johnson City, passed away with her family by her side, after fighting for nine days at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Phyllis was a Johnson City native and a daughter of the late Willis and Doris Campbell Wagner. She was a Surgical Technician, CNA, and later a Private Duty Home Health nurse. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James “Jimmy” Wagner. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tina Evans (Rusty) of Valdese, NC, and Lisa Carver (Denny) of Telford; grandchildren, Tyler Carver, Dustin Saylor (Ashley), Tim Wilson and Misty Krueger; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Wagner; sister-in-law, Jean Wagner; 1 nephew and 3 nieces. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 6:00 P.M., in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Nathan Jennings, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Saturday. The graveside committal service will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 P.M. to proceed to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Franklin Woods for their compassion given to Phyllis and her family during this difficult time.
