William C. “Billy” Adams, Jr., 90, Johnson City, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Cornerstone Village, following a brief illness.Billy was born in Harlan, KY, and lived in Johnson City since age 4. He was the son of the late William C. “Will” Adams, Sr. and Elizabeth Stone Adams.Billy previously attended the University of Virginia, then East Tennessee State College, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Business.He served in the U.S. Coast Guard.Billy was the owner of Greeneville Builders Supply.He was an avid sports fan, and especially of the E.T.S.U. Bucs and the University of Virginia Cavaliers.In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Corpening Cox Adams, in 1986, two special aunts, Grace Stone Harned and Lucille Stone Stagg, two uncles, Bill Bridgeforth, Sr. and Griffin Adams, Sr.He is survived by two special cousins, Dr. Bill Bridgeforth, Jr., and Griffin Adams, Jr., both of Johnson City; four step-children, Sharon Cox Jones and husband Kenneth D. Jones, Johnson City, Cecelia Cox Souslin and husband Kenneth, Lexington, OH, Conrad “Mickey” Cox and Gregory C. Cox, both of Johnson City; eleven grandchildren, Chris Rodeheaver Martin, Dr. Tracy Rodeheaver Dewhirst, Mark Rodeheaver, Joshua Guinn, II, Adam Guinn, Bryant Souslin, Dr. Bo Cox, Mary Katherine Cox, Elizabeth Cox, Gregory Cox, Jr., and Katie Cox; several great-grandchildren; dear friends, Joe and Ella Myers, Billy’s godson Jason Myers, Mary and Cotton Broyles.The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Jason Myers, officiating. Interment will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Conrad Cox, Gregory Cox, Dr. Bill Bridgeforth, Griff Adams, Jerry Malone and Rick Parvin. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.In-lieu-of flowers, memorials may be made in Billy’s name to the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter, 3411 N. Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37601.
