Vernon Lee Saylor Sr

Vernon L. Saylor, Sr., 92, Gray, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at his residence, following a brief illness. Vernon was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a son of the late Charlie and Minnie Hilbert Saylor. Vernon was a cattle farmer for most of his life. He was formerly a longtime truck driver for Summers Hardware, and retired from Baxter Healthcare in 1990. Vernon belonged to the Christian church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Pearl Martin Saylor, his son, Vernon Lee Saylor, Jr., two sisters, Beulah Keefauver and Ruth Clark, two brothers, J.C. Saylor and Fred Saylor. Vernon is survived by his daughter, Brenda Saylor, of the home; one brother, Paul Saylor and wife Mary Lois, Jonesborough; adopted son and daughter, Ron and Fran Houser, Knoxville; special great-niece, Freda Keefauver; special neighbor, Sue James. The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice and his nurse Vanessa for their exceptional care. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 2:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Byron Paddock, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday from 1:00- 2:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be special friends Jeff Larimer, Darryl Cretsinger, Steve Carver, J.D. Hensley, Jeff Edwards and Kenny Saylor.
