Thomas M. Darden, age 87, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the James H. Quillen V.A Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Thomas Matson and Lula Reed Darden. Mr. Darden was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and was a U.S. Army Signal Corp veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Darden and William R. Darden; four sisters, Helen Ross, Dorothy Darden, Martha Wilcox, and an infant sister, Mary. Survivors include his wife, Joan Harrell Darden, Johnson City; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas M. "Tim" Darden, Jr., M.D. and wife Carla, Albany, GA; four grandchildren, Patrick Miller and wife Becca, Albany, GA, Cole Miller, Ft. Collins, CO, Alec Miller, Albany, GA, and Grace Darden, Albany, GA; a sister-in-law, Lucille Darden, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Darden will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 7, 2017 in the sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Gooden, The Reverend Michael Lester and The Reverend Douglas Grove-DeJarnett officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the church. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 8 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Patrick Miller, Alec Miller, Cole Miller, Bill Darden, Steve Darden, and Dwight Harrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Harrell, Bill Harrell, and the Virgil Anderson Sunday School Class of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center for their exceptional care.
