Stella Vorita Bower, age 100, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at The Waters of Johnson City following a brief illness.  A native of Hampton, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Wiley B. and Lula Smith Williams.  Mrs. Bower was a member of Piney Grove Methodist Church, and was a homemaker.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bower is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bower; two sons, Billy Shona Bower and Mickey Bower; two brothers, Garner Williams and Dennis Williams; sister, Juanita Williams Pierce.Survivors include a son, Jimmie L. Bower and wife, Martha, Denver, NC; daughter, Charlotte Baker, Johnson City.  Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.The funeral service for Mrs. Bower will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 8:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Long officiating.  The family will receive friends, Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday from Monte Vista Memorial Park.  Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.  Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 10:00 A.M. to travel to the cemetery.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.appfh.net.  Appalachian Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 800 E. Haven’t seen her in years however I do remember always asking her to slice me a tomato to eat. I always knew she’d have me one when I went over to visit. Wished I could have got to know her better. Give my dad a big hug for me in heaven please.
