Phyllis Joan Smith

Phyllis Martin Smith, age 85, of Jonesborough was called home at her residence on Friday, August 21, 2015 to join her husband and other family that have gone before. She was a native of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Kenny and Maude Wilson Andrews. Mrs. Smith retired from the Veterans Administration as a nurse's aide. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Smith, known affectionately to her family as Mother, Mamaw, and Mamaw Grams, and was much loved by all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Smith; son, Harold G. Martin, Jr; Three sisters, Wayve Andrews, Joyce Shell, and Betty Lankford; two infant sisters; Brother, Lawrence Andrews. Survivors include her son Wayne Martin and wife Taffie, Johnson City; two daughters, Linda Kay Reese and Saundra "Sandy" Vicars, both of Johnson City; step-son, Larry Fugate and wife Perlina, Illinois; brother, Norman Andrews, Grandbury, TX; ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 24, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Mr. David Clark and Denise Settle officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 25 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday.
