Patrick H. Tapp, 85, Johnson City, went to be in the arms of Jesus unexpectedly on Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Tapp was a native of Unicoi County and a resident of Johnson City since 1952. He was a son of the late Frank and Rachel Jones Tapp. Mr. Tapp worked as a Respiratory Therapist for thirty-two years, retiring in 1991 from the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital, where he was employed for twenty-six years. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at Regions Bank on Sunset Drive. Mr. Tapp was a 60 year member of Walnut Christian Church, where he was a former Elder, Sunday school teacher and singer in a church quartet. He was also a member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge #486 F&AM. Mr. Tapp was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tapp was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Dale Tapp, a grandson, Joshua Tapp, two brothers, Lloyd and Floyd Tapp, four sisters, Pansy Lewis, Laura Mae Manouelien, Nell Lewis and Anna June Tapp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Saylor Tapp; a son, Beryl L. Tapp, Kingsport; a daughter, Patricia Tapp Starbird, Bristol; a sister, Hazel Murray, Erwin; three grandchildren, Jordan Tapp, Jessica Tapp Gagne and husband Jake, and Kelley Tapp Mann; three great-grandchildren, Sarah Tapp, Jade Gagne and Shane Mann; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 18, 2016, at 7:00PM, from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Tim Carlson, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service from 5:00-7:00PM in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside committal service will be held Tuesday at 1:00PM in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend are to meet at the funeral home by 12:30PM to proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Walnut Christian Church, 2318 S. Greenwood Dr., Johnson City, TN 37604.
