Hope Jenkins Carter, 94, resident of Boones Creek community of Gray, Tennessee, passed from this life to be with her Lord, at her home, Monday, January 13, 2020. Hope was a Christian, a farmer’s Wife and Mother. She loved and served her Lord at Boones Creek Bible Church, where she was a founding and charter member. At BCBC she served by teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, choir, and nursery duties. She was well known in her community for her homemade bread, which she shared with family, church family, doctors’ offices, and friends. She was a longtime member of the Washington County Home Demonstration Club, Boones Creek Ruritan, Boones Creek Historical Trust, and served a term as PTA president of Boones Creek Elementary School. Mrs. Carter also enjoyed attending football games at Neyland Stadium for many years with her husband Rod and trips to the beach, and to their vacation home in Umatilla, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Jenkins, Sr. and Nanie Jenkins; brother, Ben Jenkins, Jr, Sister’s Maxine Gould, Louise Sahlin, and Lottie Burleson. Survivors include a son, Mark Carter of the home; a daughter, Dawn Melton and husband Gary of Johnson City and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks to nieces Julie Burleson, Pat Bond, and Carol Salinas for their regular visits at her home and hospitals. The family wishes to thank the medical staff of the Franklin Woods Hospital and Admedisys Hospice Services for their excellent care. A special thanks to her home caregiver Mildred Dice for her dedication and companionship. Special thanks to her friends who visited her during her hospital stays, many we did not know that visited and those we did to name a few, Ethel Johnson, Sharon Harmon, Linda Crigger, Pastor Dale Cunningham and wife Denise for their support, visits, and prayer over the years and especially during the past couple months of her health decline. Special thanks to Betty McInturff, her friend and owner of Betty’s Beauty Salon, for the many many years Hope enjoyed having her hair styled weekly and enjoyed the Christian fellowship there with friends. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 17, 2020, at 7 PM, at Boones Creek Bible Church, with Pastor Dale Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 5 PM to 7 PM at the church. The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 11AM in Monte Vista Memorial Park, where family and friends may gather at 10:45AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, 609 E.
