Mary Ruth Gross, age 80, of Boones Creek, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Brady and Grace Clyburn Hart. Mrs. Gross worked for TPI Corporation and for ITT Industries. Along with her husband Niles, she attended Knob Creek Church of the Brethren, Cash Hollow Presbyterian and Princeton Church. Mrs. Gross was the most beautiful soul. She loved life and she loved her entire family. She was known to have the giving spirit, always willing to help, and would do anything for anybody. She was the most loving wife, mother and granny. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gross is preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Gross; three sisters, Margaret Herman, Joyce Hart and Linis Jean Hart. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Niles Roby Gross, of the home; two sons, Niles Matthew Gross, Scott Brady Gross, and wife Heather Lynn, all from Johnson City; a daughter, Sandra Mae Matson, and husband Dave, Gray, TN; four grandchildren, Amy Johnston, Gray, Aaron Johnston, Orlando, FL, Mary Stohler, Gray, Allen Stohler and wife Erica, Washington D.C; Great Grandchildren, Nicholas, Austyn, Jackson and Seth. She is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Taylor, Gray, Barbara Perry, Boones Creek; brother, Jimmy Hart, and wife Bonnie, Jonesborough. She leaves behind her loving special friend, Honey Dog. The funeral service for Mrs. Gross will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 25, 2015 with Rev. Ricky Chantry officiating, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
