Mary Ruth Gross, age 80, of Boones Creek, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Brady and Grace Clyburn Hart. Mrs. Gross worked for TPI Corporation and for ITT Industries. Along with her husband Niles, she attended Knob Creek Church of the Brethren, Cash Hollow Presbyterian and Princeton Church. Mrs. Gross was the most beautiful soul. She loved life and she loved her entire family. She was known to have the giving spirit, always willing to help, and would do anything for anybody. She was the most loving wife, mother and granny. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gross is preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Gross; three sisters, Margaret Herman, Joyce Hart and Linis Jean Hart. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Niles Roby Gross, of the home; two sons, Niles Matthew Gross, Scott Brady Gross, and wife Heather Lynn, all from Johnson City; a daughter, Sandra Mae Matson, and husband Dave, Gray, TN; four grandchildren, Amy Johnston, Gray, Aaron Johnston, Orlando, FL, Mary Stohler, Gray, Allen Stohler and wife Erica, Washington D.C; Great Grandchildren, Nicholas, Austyn, Jackson and Seth. She is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Taylor, Gray, Barbara Perry, Boones Creek; brother, Jimmy Hart, and wife Bonnie, Jonesborough. She leaves behind her loving special friend, Honey Dog. The funeral service for Mrs. Gross will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 25, 2015 with Rev. Ricky Chantry officiating, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Dear Family, I am so sorry for your loss, but I rejoice that Mary Ruth is at Home in the arms of Jesus. She was a very special lady and I was blessed to have had her (as well as most of the Hart Family)as my neighbor for so many years. May Jesus give you peace and comfort during these dark days. Moms best friendWe grew up with "Mary Ruth" as we called her being my mom's best friend. They worked together and we're always talking on the phone sharing the days gossip from work. In MY EYES as a child it seemed like Mary Ruth was pregnant all the time?? and she had this craving for cucumber and tomatoes sandwiches every night. She would call the house and see if momma wanted to come over and share one with her and on several occasions momma, being busy with 3 other kids would have to decline. I would volunteer to go down and eat with her because I'd do anything to get away from chores at my house and spending time with this lady. I always enjoyed those times with her and never remember a time when she didn't have that sparkle in her eye and something good to say to you to lift you you up. Later in years we had the canny ability to always run into one another at Walmart and the last time I saw her was about a month ago and she she thought I was her cousin but still gave me that big old hug and smile and told me she loved me. The world is less one more angel!
