Margaret Cox McCalmont, age 96, of Johnson City, lovingly known as "Bunny", passed away peacefully in her sleep on Easter Morning, March 27, 2016 at Cornerstone Village. A native of Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Ina Mae Cox. She was a member of First Christian Church and the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class. A southern-born genteel lady, she attended the University of Texas, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation in 1939, she continued her dedication to her sorority's philanthropy, "Service for Sight". Prior to her marriage to Don in 1946, she worked briefly for Humble Oil Company. She was a devoted housewife and mother to her two children. Family activities, gatherings, and travel were of upmost importance to her. She loved gardening and feeding the birds. Margaret and Don were very active in church and social clubs. They loved their dance clubs and seemed to go dancing every couple of weeks. Upon retirement, they followed their children and grandchildren to Tennessee and began to travel extensively all over the world. She was "our Yellow Rose of Texas." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Don McCalmont. Survivors include daughter, Donna Sowers and husband, Rick, Piney Flats; son, Mike McCalmont and wife Brenda, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Jon Michael McCalmont and wife Jennifer, Charlotte, NC, Trisha Whitlock and husband Josh, Johnson City, Lauren Scutero and husband Brian, Orlando, FL, Jennifer Gapen and husband Chad, Nashville, TN; 4 great grandchildren, Xander Whitlock, Johnson City, Kate McCalmont, Charlotte, NC, Elijah Whitlock, Johnson City, Braden Scutero, Orlando, FL. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 P.M. Wednesday. Active pallbearers will be Mike McCalmont, Rick Sowers, Jon Michael McCalmont, Josh Whitlock, Chad Gapen, and Brian Scutero. The family would like to extend a thank you to her caregivers and our special friends, Connie Pinkston, Linda Smith, and Lillian Vega. Your love and kindness have been a true blessing.
