We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord 2Cor 5:8 Lonnie "Jerome" Stockton, age 73 of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 13, 2017 with his family by his side at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. A native of Unicoi County, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Leakie Arwood Stockton. Mr. Stockton retired from Mayes Brothers Corp. and was also a carrier for the Johnson City Press. He faithfully attended Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church. He had a sweet spirit and a heart that was full of love and compassion for others. He was a faithful follower of the Lord and was always willing to help those in need. Jerome loved his wife and family dearly, and always lovingly placed their needs above his own. He had a love for fixing things that were broken, gardening, farming, and spending as much time as possible outdoors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stockton was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Tipton, Eska Dixson, Dora Love, and Mary Stockton; brothers, Buford Stockton, James Stockton, Earl Stockton, and Bobby Stockton. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Helen Wright Stockton; daughters, Donna Stockton Jackson and husband, Russell, Amy Stockton Cook and husband Derick; Son, Lonnie Eugene Stockton; Grandsons, Anthony Jackson and Isaac Cook; great grandchild, Tristan Jackson; sisters, Alta Farmer, Vivian Silvers, and Sarah Bowers; brother, A.J. Stockton. Many nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Stockton will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 18, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff and Mr. Terry Barnett officiating. A eulogy will be presented by Derick Cook. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19 from Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. to travel to the cemetery in procession.
