Joseph Edward “Ed” “Doc” Hicks, 65, Johnson City, died unexpectedly Monday, December 26, 2022, at his residence. Ed was a native of Winter Haven, FL, and had been a resident of Johnson City most of his adult life. He formerly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman. Ed formerly attended East Tennessee State University and San Diego State University. He was a self-employed Commercial Construction Contractor. Ed enjoyed reading, and watching old, classic movies. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Rader Hicks, a sister, Connie Renee’ “Sissy” Hicks, and a brother, Mark Shane “Jody” Hicks. Ed is survived by his father, Joseph J. Hicks (Jean Hays), Johnson City; one sister, Kathy Hicks Smith (E.J.), East Bend, NC; two brothers, Lloyd “Bill” Hicks, Johnson City, and Robert E. “Bobby” Hicks, Morristown; several nieces and nephews. The graveside service with military honors for Ed will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., in the Historic Site of Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 P.M. Tuesday.
