John Henry Couch, 74, Johnson City, died Saturday, December 21, 2019 at his residence. John was born in Washington County to the late Clarence and Kathleen Cash Couch. Along with his parents, his brother David E. Couch preceded him in death. John served in law enforcement for 47 years, receiving several honors and certificates. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church. Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Patricia McCloud Couch; two sons, Greg Couch (Peggy) and Jonathan Couch (Angie); a granddaughter, Daphne Couch; a grandson, Dylan Couch; a brother Dennis Couch (Sheila); little brother and sister, David and Debbie Couch; two special nephews Blake and Finn; a family pet Benjy; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, December 27, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The graveside committal service will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.Read Obituary
Mr. Couch was one of a kind. He always had a joke or story to share. He was the only person that I knew that could find someone to serve them. We always trusted him with our service papers. He was a great family man as he always talked about his wife and family. He will be truly missed. I was just talking with him on friday December 20 and he was joking as always. Rest in peace and prayers for your wonderful family.

I remember John as a loving family man. Even though I hadn't seen him in yrs, since we were young, I always thought of him as a caring person God put on this planet. Condolences from the Goolsby family. Prayers in this time of grief and loss.
I have known John for many years through working for various law firms - more recently through Hunter, Smith & Davis. He was always very nice to all the staff and did an outstanding job for all of us. Just talked with him on Friday, Dec. 20 and as always we had a good laugh. Will miss his ringing our bell and our conversations. A great person!

John is my big Brother. Every time we talked we always went back in time, be it those gravy breakfast we had, police stuff, or just the good ole days. We talk just a couple days before he passed. He said I may not say it as much as I should, but you are my little Brother and always will be and told me how much he loved me. I told him he had always been more than my big brother, more like my Dad and I loved him. He was always there. He put everyone in front of himself. I Thank The Lord our last words on this earth were that way. Many don't get that chance. Pat, Greg, Jonathan, Blake and kids... know we love you. My God Send Grace and Peace.
I remember John as the officer who could get a paper served for the court when no one else could. He was always so pleasant and had a funny story to tell. I enjoyed when he and Pat would come by the office to just visit. He will be missed. Praying for you Pat and the rest of the family.
