James William Thomason

James "Curly" Thomason, 68, Johnson City, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016. He was a Johnson City native and was the son of the late William and Ruth Gray. Curly was a graduate of Science Hill High School and was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW. Curly enjoyed fishing, playing pool, poker and basketball. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandkids. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. Survivors include a son, Trevor Thomason and wife Charman, Johnson City; a daughter, Melanie Thomason Ousley and Brian Gage, Johnson City; two sisters, Sue Sifford and husband Don, Gray and Peggy Johnson and husband Tony, Jonesborough; six grandchildren, Hunter Leveau, Cathleen Ousley, Madison Thomason, Whitney Ousley, Katie Holder, Nick Holder and wife Sara; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Isaiah Holder; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 4PM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Timmy Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2PM-4PM prior to the service. The committal service with military honors will be conducted Monday, February 29, 2016, at 10:45AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15AM to proceed to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
