James B. Taylor, age 70, of Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at his residence following a brief illness. A lifelong native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late James Britton Taylor, Sr., and Marie Hurst Whetsell. Mr. Taylor was an US Army Veteran serving as a Specialist in the Artillery Division. In 1974, Bro. Taylor answered God's calling into the ministry and began evangelizing until he became the Pastor at New Harvest Missionary Baptist Church 13 years ago. Bro. James was very faithful to his Lord, the church, and the King James Bible. His favorite Bible scripture was John 14, "Let not your heart be troubled, Ye believe in God, believe also in me... .". In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ginger. Survivors include his wife, Julia K. Taylor, Johnson City; two sons, Rocky Britt Taylor, Johnson City, and Zebulon Tyson Taylor, Brooklyn, NY; two sisters, Janice Byrd and Bernice Barnett, both of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Taylor will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 until 1:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday from the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
