J.T. Saylor, 87, Johnson City, died Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Cornerstone Village, following a brief illness. J.T. was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Toy Lee and Estella Hodge Saylor. J.T. was a retired pipe insulator. He formerly attended Pinecrest Baptist Church, and was a Mason. J.T. enjoyed watching old western’s and loved going to McDonald’s each morning to have breakfast and visit with his good friends. In addition to his parents, J.T. was preceded in death by three brothers, E.D. Saylor, Clarence Lee Saylor, and infant Ken Hartsell Saylor, one sister, Ellen Onks, an infant great-grandson, Nicholas Dorian Hice, four step-sons, Gordon, Tim, Greg and Brent McKeehan. He is survived by his wife, Jean Guinn Saylor; one brother, Wayne G. Saylor and wife Geneva, Clairmont, NC; one sister, Ruby Tapp, Johnson City; three grandchildren, Becky Wright and husband Brian, Brian McKeehan, all of Shelby, NC, Holly McKeehan Hice and husband Aaron, Hickory, NC; three great-grandchildren, Justin and Andrew Wright, Brittany Hamrick; several nieces and nephews; special friends and neighbors, Tommy and Cody. The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to the staff of Cornerstone Village for the excellent care given to J.T. during his stay. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Garry Edwards, officiating. The committal service will follow at the funeral home, then a private interment in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
