Imogene Gentry, age 89, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Leota Blackburn Wilson. Mrs. Gentry was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, and was a seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she loved her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Gentry, Sr. in February 2007; a son, Larry Willis; daughter, Linda Crowe; brother, Charles Wilson, Jr.; sisters, Sue Blevins, Nell Hudson, and Ruth Walters. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Light, Gray, Betty Bouton, Johnson City; son, Guy Gentry, Jr., Gray; seven grandchildren, Michael Young, Mark Young, Jason Richardson, Shawn Light, Jeremy Crowe, Jonathan Gentry, and Deila Taylor; nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Gentry will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Lasley and Pastor Jody Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, March 3 at 11:00 A.M. from Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Friday. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the 7400 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center. It was a honor and a pleasure taking care of Imogene. She was such a sweet lady and always brought a smile to everyone's face. She will be sadly missed.
So very sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed caring for Mrs Imogene at Lakebridge. She could always bring a smile to my face and make me laugh.
