Howard Thomas Meeks

Howard Thomas "Tom" Meeks, age 82, of 218 Springview Drive, Gray, TN, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his residence. Tom was born January 14, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to Howard T. and Nell Davis Meeks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jayne Annette; a sister, Ann Altes; and an infant brother. Mr. Meeks was a veteran of the US Army and retired from the United States Postal Service in Washington D.C. with more than 38 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hyattsville, Maryland. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marlene Hyder Meeks; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Janette Hyder Ford; two special cousins, Charles Oliver and Norma Smith; special friends Chuck Mayes and Christine Kinley. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.
