Dr. Henry E. Webb

Dr. Henry E. Webb awoke to the eternal promise, the fulfillment of his purpose and hope in this life on February 28, 2018. He was born to Hubert and Mabel Webb on June 11, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Emerald Stevenson Webb. Survivors include children; Karen Smith and husband Len, Mark Webb and wife Beth, Wendy Webb and husband R. Mark, his grandchildren; Kirsten Hall and Rich, Ryan Koeniger and Jennifer, Brenden Webb and Sarah Beth, Corey Webb and Tisha, Lauren Herring and Josh, Rachel Speas and Todd, Lara Bozzo and Joe, and fourteen great grandchildren. Dr. Webb began his academic preparations at Cincinnati Bible University, Xavier University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned two PhD's which prepared him for teaching and preaching. In 1950, Dr. Webb began a forty year teaching career as a faculty member of Milligan College and Emmanuel Seminary. He taught eastern European ministerial students at the Institute for Biblical Studies in Viennna, Austria. Dr. Webb was named chair of the Department of Biblical Studies at Milligan College in 1963. He has held membership in the American Society of Church History, The Disciples of Christ Historical Society, and Theta Phi. He has served on the Theological Study Commission of the World Convention of Churches of Christ, The Consultation on Internal Unity, Unity Forums with the Disciples of Christ and Churches of Christ, and the Holocaust Forum of Tennessee. Dr. Webb is the author of "In Search of Christian Unity, a History of the Restoration Movement", which is used as a church history textbook in many Christian colleges and universities. Dr. Webb had a passion for teaching and preparing students for servant leadership and ministry. He was instrumental in the planning and development of the Appalachian Christian Camp in Unicoi, Tennessee. He was co host of First Christian Church's weekly television show "In the word". He also served as an elder and as teacher of the Mr & Mrs. Class at First Christian Church in Johnson City. Dr. Webb ministered to several congregations in the area; First Christian Church of Erwin, Suburban Christian Church of Bristol, Virginia, Central Christian Church of Jonesborough, Harrison Christian Church of Johnson City, and Bluff City Christian Church of Bluff City. Our family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Cornerstone Village. We would also like to convey our appreciation to former students, church members, and family and friends for the outpouring of their love and support. He impacted the lives of countless people but none greater than that of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who have all been inspired by his devotion to the Lord and to his family. Dr. Webb's life will be remembered on March 24th at First Christian Church of Johnson City with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. and the memorial service to follow.
