Hazel B. York, passed away on June 8, 2018 at her residence in Johnson City after a lengthy illness.  She was born on September 10, 1936 in Buladean, North Carolina to the late Elmer and Mary Jarnagin Putman.She was a graduate of Tipton Hill High School in Bakersville, NC, and graduated from Steed College of Business in 1957.  Mrs. York moved to Washington D.C. and was employed by the U.S. Government from 1957 to 1965.  In 1965 she and her husband Richard, moved back to Johnson City and opened York Automotive in Elizabethton, Tennessee.The love of her life, Richard A. York, passed away in 1992.  She continued to keep the business open until her retirement.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Putman.Survivors include her wonderful friends, June Whittamore, June Wood, Janice Green, Geri and Kane Williams, Sonny and Joyce Miller, her caregiver Judy Taylor, and her home health nurses.She is survived by her sister, Velma P. Rupert, sister-in-law, Bertie Putman, and several nieces and nephews.The graveside service for Mrs. York will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Chaplain Steven Spell officiating.  Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 P.M.   Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www. June Whittamore, my heart breaks for you at how painful it must be to say goodbye to your dearest best friend. You were amazing with all the time and help you gladly gave her. She hurts no longer resting in God's arms.
