Harry Curtis Williams

Harry Curtis Williams, 80, Johnson City, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.Harry was a Bristol native and had been a resident of Johnson City since 1973. He was the son of the late F.E. and Mary Emily Van Gilder Williams. Harry graduated from Tennessee High School in 1956, then joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country for six years. He then attended E.T.S.U., where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, then the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he received his Law Degree. Following graduation, Harry moved to Johnson City in 1973, where he began practicing both Corporate and Private Law, representing Trend Builders, All-American Reality, and Mountain Empire Oil Co., among many others. Harry always felt led to help, in his words, “the least, the last, and the lost”, those that were less fortunate than he, and took great pride in doing so. From this desire to help others, stemmed the organization and reality of The Melting Pot at Munsey Church. Another of Harry’s passions was The United Emmaus Community. He was proud of the fact that he was a Pilgrim on Walk #1, then served as a leader on the second walk. In 1998, Harry and a group of his Emmaus Community friends began United Emmaus Kairos Prison Ministry at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. A very special part of his life was his Emmaus Prayer Group and Fishing group, and the men who shared these groups with him, Neil Francisco, Darrell Wright, Ron Ison, Gary Lewis, and Dr. Paul Brown. In addition to The United Emmaus Community, Harry was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and the New Dimensions Sunday School Class, The Tennessee Bar Association, and a former member of the Johnson City Lions Club.Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Pam Williams; two daughters, Mary Leslie Williams, of the home, and Jennifer Page Williams, Johnson City; twin grandchildren and the loves of his life, Landon Curtis and Mary Emily Williams, Johnson City; his puppies, Sophia and Molly. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Brown, Jr., Dr. Ryan Chatelain, Dr. Clifford Wiegand, the nurses and staff of 5200 of the Johnson City Medical Center.  The Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 2:00 P.M., in the Sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patty Muse, Mr. Chris Ford and Rev. Jeremy Dykes, officiating. Special music will be provided by Eddie Lauderback.
