Gwenda (Barker) Coomer

Gwenda Karen Barker Coomer, Johnson City, Tennessee, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 15, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1944 to parents Carl W. Barker and Pauline Morris Barker of Keokee, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jay Dee Coomer, two sons; Jay Dee Coomer Jr., and Timothy Coomer; two sisters; Mary Nell Parsons and Julia Fain Barker. She is survived by four brothers;  Carl Barker Jr. (Bobee)  and Sue of Wallingford, Kentucky, Nicky Barker and Rhonda, Keokee, Virginia, Rex Barker,  Keokee, Virginia, and Del Barker, Keokee Virginia; three sisters, Anita Rhodes and Luther, Johnson City, Tennessee, Nancy Ellis and Conley, Keokee, VA, and Elizabeth Orellana and Mario, Keokee,Va, several nieces and nephews. She was a former employee of Johnson City School system, and Saint Mary's Catholic School. She was a member of Roan Hill Baptist Church.Gwenda was a master gardener, chef, and baker. She surrounded her home with beautiful flowers, and grew a vegetable garden. She loved to prepare meals for her extended family.Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Johnson City, Tennessee 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 1, 2018.Read Obituary
