Guy Monroe Maddox

Guy Monroe Maddox, Sr. departed his earthly home on December 31, 2018 to rejoice and dance in Heaven for eternity. He was born in Apalachicola, FL in 1923 and the family later relocated to Tallahassee, FL.He was a graduate of Leon County High School and graduated from Florida State University in 1951. He began his management career as Assistant Bookstore Manager at FSU.Guy moved his family to Johnson City, TN when he accepted a position as Bookstore Manager at East Tennessee State University in 1963. He retired in 1987.He loved to dance and attended many dances over the years, even as recently as October 2018. His favorite dance styles were swing and ballroom dancing.Guy played semi-pro baseball with the Tallahassee Capitals from 1946 through 1951 and again from 1953 through 1956 when the team disbanded.He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Scout & Raider, the precursor to the Navy SEALs. He was awarded the Navy SEALs Trident in 2016 in recognition of his service.Guy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patty and brother Emery Jr. “Deac”.He will be greatly missed by his children, Guy Jr. (wife Terrie), grandchildren Marcus and Kelly Maddox, and daughter Trish Maddox (husband Stephen Christie). He also leaves behind two very special friends and dance partners, Lana Bennett and Martha Voigt. They have been a great comfort and presence for Guy and the family during his illness.Mr. Maddox’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff on the Hospice wings at the Community Living Center at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. Their excellent care and concern for him and the family was very comforting during this difficult time.It was Guy’s wish to be cremated. A military honors service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery ANNEX on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 2:30 P.M.
