Grace Billings Anderson, age 101, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at her home at Colonial Hill Retirement Center.  She was born in Valle Crucis, NC on September 8, 1917 to her parents Aud and Mary Ann Church Billings. Her family later moved to Roan Mountain, and then to Johnson City, where she attended Junior High in the 9th grade. She graduated from Science Hill High School in 1935. Grace was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class.  She was a charter member of the Shady Oaks Garden Club and a former member of the Johnson City Country Club where she was ladies golf champion for 9 years.  She was an avid bridge player and had knowledge of the game that many envied.  Grace especially loved knitting caps for the newborn babies at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Randolph Anderson in 1997, her sisters, Faye Billings and Lillian Creech and her brothers Donald Billings and William Billings. She is survived by her niece Theresa Billings, Johnson City and her great nephew, Lt. Col. Rich Martin USMC and his wife Amy of Newport, RI as well as special friends, Caroline Lockett and Gladys Cantler. Special thanks to the staff of Colonial Hills Retirement Center, Ballad Hospice and Judy Ingala, Staff Parish Nurse of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, who cared for Grace with love and concern so she might live her last days with dignity and peace.Funeral services will be in the Sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 14th with Rev. Michael Lester and Rev. Patty Muse officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 with the funeral service to follow at 2.  Music will be provided by Ann O’Quinn, Lucille Hart and Bob Cantler. Active pallbearers will be Lt. Col. Rich Martin, Dr. Roberts Bradford, Sr., Adam Crouch, Al DiGrigorio, Bob Cantler and Steve Fox.  Honorary pallbearers are Sam Hendrickson, Ted Bradford, Roberts Bradford, Jr., Dr. Allan Bradford, Wayne Wilcox and the members of the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class.Memorial tributes may be sent to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church for the Camp Bays Mountain Project, 205 South Roan Street, Johnson City, TN, 37601.
