Gladys Vivian Orren, 88, of Erwin, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at NHC Healthcare. She was a Unicoi Co. native and a daughter of the late Linville and Joanna Murphy Edwards. Gladys was a homemaker who loved her family and many friends. She loved to go shopping. Gladys was a longtime member of Martindale Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Douglas Orren. Survivors include her son, Roger Orren and wife Susie, Johnson City; two daughters, Linda Sue Canter, Jonesborough and Debbie Horton and husband Gene, Johnson City; three sisters. Barbara Masters, Betty and Carolyn Edwards; a brother, Nicky Edwards; grandchildren, John Douglas Neece and wife Amanda, Tammy Loye and husband Mark, Candice Canter and Cynthia Canter; great grandchildren, Kayle and Austin and Marley Hopson. The family would like to thank everyone at Governors Bend and NHC for their care. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, November 2, 2017, 7PM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Delbert Storey officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5PM until 7pm. The graveside committal service will be Friday at 10AM in the Roselawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Cemetery by 9:50AM. Gladys was my mom's next door neighbor at Governor's Bend. I will always remember your sweet momma. She was always so sweet and kind to my mother and to me. My mother, Johnnie Goodman, passed away on September 20th. I miss her so much as I know you are missing yours. I am thinking of you. Pam Amos
I loved Gladys. She was so sweet and always made my day at work. She always said the sweetest things. I miss her smiling face at Governor's Bend. Such a kind soul.
