Georgia F. Smith Hopkins, age 89, of Jonesborough, TN, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at her residence following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Washington County, TN, she was a daughter of the late Hobert and Sarah Hyder Smith. She was a member of Union Christian Church, Jonesborough, where she had previously served as Sunday School Secretary. She sang in the choir. Mrs. Hopkins loved to crochet, and not many babies ever left Union Christian Church without receiving one of her baby afghans that she had made. She was an avid dog lover, and she would donate a large bag of dog food every month to the Washington County Animal Shelter. Mrs. Hopkins has volunteered at the V.A. Center for many years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hopkins is preceded in death by her husband, James "J.C." Hopkins; two sisters, Beulah Carr and Ardelia Ruth Rieger; one brother, William Glen Smith. Survivors include a son, James C. Hopkins and wife Linda, Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Tracee Walker and husband Eddie, Bakersfield, CA, Veronica Ketron and husband Matthew and Thomas Roberts, all of Jonesborough; five great grandchildren, Ashlynn Walker, Brokklynn Walker, Taylor Ketron, Kaylee Peck, and Layla Ketron; best friend, Peggy Keplinger. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Hopkins will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the West Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Mr. Lamar Garrison officiating assisted by Mr. John Isenberg. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the West Chapel. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 P.M. Thursday. Memories and condolence may be shared with the family at www.appfh.net. I grew up attending Union Church of Christ, and remember Georgia well. She was a sweet lady. I'm sorry for her family's loss, but believe Georgia is celebrating in heaven now.
