Georgia Hamlin, 94, Johnson City, died Friday, November 1, 2019, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton. Georgia was a native of Dickenson County, Va., and had been a resident of Johnson City for most of her life. During World War II, she lived in Detroit, MI, where she enjoyed her time there helping with the war effort. Georgia was the daughter of the late Tom and Virgie Davis McCown. She was a homemaker and a former member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Georgia was married to her late husband Charles in 1952. Together they loved to travel and were fortunate enough to see all but two states. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Hamlin, Jr., in 2001, and her daughter, Barbara Hamlin, in 2018. Georgia is survived by two sons, Bill Powers and wife Sharon, Steve Hamlin and wife Sandy, all of Johnson City; grandchildren, Bradley Powers, Madison and Dominick Powers, Lilah Powers, Molly Dawson and husband Shannon, Virginia Waters and husband Tim, Elizabeth Brown and husband Travis; step-granddaughter, Emily Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jordan Powers, Logan Hamilton and Steven Dawson, Norah Henry and Aiden Waters, Mason Brown and Kailey Brown; several nieces and nephews. The graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., in Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday from 11:00-12:30 in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.
