Gene Coffey

Gene Coffey, 64, Erwin, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.Gene was born in Johnson City to the late Shelby F. and Eloise Ricker Coffey.Gene was in the entertainment business working as a stagehand. He loved music, enjoyed meeting all the bands and movie stars. He was a member of the International Theatrical Stagehand Association #699. Gene enjoyed being around his friends and colleagues. He also loved his cat Buddy.Gene is survived by a daughter Christine Coffey Rice of Arizona; a granddaughter, Areona E. Rice; a grandson, A.J. Rice; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister Teresa Coffey Gillette (Dennis) of Johnson City; 3 nephews, Robert Brandon Hall (Whisper) of Orlando, FL, M. Scott Hall of Johnson City, Kalin J.P. Miller of Johnson City; several cousins and a special friend Connie Moore Knowles, Greeneville, TN.The celebration of Gene’s life will begin at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. prior to the celebration.In-lieu-of-flowers, donations in Gene’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2319 Browns Mill Rd.
