MARY FRANCES STORY WHITAKER, age 94, Johnson, City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28th, 2016, at Governors Bend, Erwin, TN surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 1, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of Washington County and lived in Johnson City, Tennessee, most of her life. Mrs. Whitaker was thedaughter of the late Lucy and Millard Story. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mr. C. Paul Whitaker, Sr, son, Kenneth Lynn Whitaker, a sister, Pauline Story Law, and three brothers; Preston, Sherill and Roy Story. Mrs. Whitaker was employed at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Bookstore from 1957 to 1983 and retired from ETSU after Twenty Seven Years of dedicated service. She was the Business Accountant for all of the University Departmental charge accounts, processed and handled all associated graduation requirements (invitations, caps & gowns, etc), and ordered, received and distributed graduating student's class rings and related ETSU jewelry. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. She was a Lifetime member of the Parent Teacher's Association (PTA) and Former President of the Local and Washington County Chapters of PTA. She served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America in Washington County for numerous years. She was a member of the Pilot Club, Johnson City, Tennessee; the American Business Women's Association and the AARP Senior Citizens. She served for many years as a Precinct Voting Judge at the Midway School Precinct. She was a long time member of the Embreville Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, COL, USA (Ret) C. Paul Whitaker, Jr, and daughter-in-law, Judy Biddle Whitaker of Savannah, Georgia; Three Grandchildren, Leslie Whitaker Kennedy and husband William Altman Kennedy of Orange Park, Florida; Jeffrey Allen Whitaker and wife Polly Liles Whitaker of Johnson City, Tennessee; Christopher Lynn Whitaker and wife Joanna Lynn Whitaker of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and six Great Grandchildren, Luke Allen Whitaker, Grant Alver Whitaker, William Altman Kennedy Jr., Grace Lyn Whitaker, Lauren Elizabeth Whitaker, Alyssa Jane Whitaker. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Appalachian Funeral Home with Mr. Kevin Holley officiating. The family will also receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home. The graveside committal service will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 A.M.
