Edna Earl (Squibb) Johnson

John 11:25 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”A letter to those that knew and loved my mother…Edna Earl Squibb Johnson was born on January 30, 1926, and went home to be with Coolidge, her husband of 72 years on Thursday, February 28. Mom grew up in the Jonesborough and Sulphur Springs area with her parents, John and Nola Squibb, sister Evelyn and brother, Palmer. After marrying my dad, she worked for Hamilton Bank in Johnson City until 1963 when she quit to continue raising me and support dad in his construction business. When grown, I married my wife, Pam Johnson, and we have two wonderful daughters, Erin and Anna. Mom’s grandchildren were her delight. She loved them dearly.Mom loved cooking for her family, her relatives and many friends. She especially loved to travel and did so extensively around the world. In her later years, she began writing and illustrating greeting cards for birthdays or special occasions of friends and family. If you ever received a card, it was always designed just for you and filled with humor always meant to bring a smile.Last April, her granddaughter Anna and her husband, Seth Cassell, had a baby boy named Henry Coolidge. No matter how mom was feeling, if she knew she was going to get a visit from Henry, to hold and cuddle, it was always the best day of the week.Thank you, Mom, for always supporting Dad and me. I would also like to thank Amedisys specifically nurse Kim Brown, my family, friends and church families for your support during mom’s illness. The funeral service for Edna Johnson will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with Jane Taylor, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 12-2 P.M. The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park.
