Edna Morris Joy, 97, died on June 9, 2018, at NHC Healthcare. She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and also a lifelong member of Munsey Memorial Methodist Church.She was the daughter of the late Robert J. Morris and Mattie Bolton Morris. She was also predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Henry joy, Jr.; four siblings: Agnes Baldwin, Louise Miller, Bob Morris, and Jack Morris, and by her granddaughter, Michelle Roberts.She is survived by her seven children; Henry Joy, III and wife Flora of Johnson City, Bob Joy and wife Molly, Sharon Gibson, and Bill Joy, all of Knoxville, Teresa Cox and husband Robin of Richland, WA, Mary Roberts of Johnson City, and Barbara Burleson and husband Rick of Jonesborough.She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ryann Gibson Aken of Knoxville, Kelley Joy of Brooklyn, NY, Jason Roberts of Sunnyvale, CA, Brooke Burleson of Jonesborough, Robert Joy of Atlanta, GA, and Chris Joy of Lexington, NC.Edna was a 1938 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended ETSC. After all her children reached school age, she taught herself computer programming and worked in the payroll department of the Johnson City Medical Center for 25 years. One of her greatest delights was planning, hosting, and cooking for several family gatherings and picnics each year. She was also an avid gardener and loved birdwatching.Her Munsey Church family was also very special to her--- so much so that she asked the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class and Circle No. 9 to be her honorary pallbearers. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.Her family expresses their sincere gratitude to the wonderful and caring staffs of NHC and Caris Hospice.The family of Edna Joy will receive friends from 10 A.M. – 11:30 A.M., Saturday, June 16, 2018, in the chapel of Munsey Memorial Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Michael Lester officiating. The Joy family were my neighbors for most of my life. I grew up with her youngest daughters, Mary and Barbara. I always admired her for her grace and beauty. My sincere condolences to all of her family.
