Lucille Martin Meredith, age 95, passed away peacefully at Ivy Hall Nursing Home on October 16th with her family by her side. Lucille was the daughter of the late James M. (Matt) and Mamie Estes Martin. She was born and raised in the Boones Creek Community. She was a 1937 graduate of Boones Creek High School and was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church. In 1954, she married Elbert Meredith and moved to the Powder Branch Community in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Meredith; son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Patsy Meredith; son-in-law, Harold Edens; brothers Howard Martin, Stanley Martin, & Jim Martin; and her brother-in-law, Joe Slonaker. Lucille was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church, the Maggie Kyte Ladies' Circle, and the Quilting Ladies of Boones Creek Christian Church. Lucille was a seamstress having worked in alterations at Parks Belk. Lucille enjoyed cooking, canning, quilting, sewing, and was well-known for her sourdough bread, yeast rolls, and boiled custard. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kay Edens, Elizabethton; her grandchildren Terry Meredith (Val), John Meredith (Tracey), David Meredith (Bernie), Mark Edens (Anna) who visited "Granny" daily, Beth Tester (Larry); her great-grandchildren Jordan Meredith and Eden Tester; her sister, Mary Etta Slonaker, Johnson City, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Lucille will be conducted at 7pm Thursday, October 19th in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Dr. Ted Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7pm in the East Parlor of the funeral home. A committal service will be conducted on Friday, October 20 with Mr. Dick Morris presiding at 11:00AM at Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends and family are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:45AM. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Oak Grove Christian Church.
