Douglas MacArthur Howell passed away on August 11, 2016 at his residence at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Sharon Rose Howell, two infant sons Richard Park and Michael Paul Howell, parents Park and Arbie Howell, and six siblings. He graduated in 1962 from Lamar High school where he was an All Star, All American in Basketball and track. He was voted captain of his basketball team during his Junior and Senior year. He attended Ole Miss on a Basketball scholarship, and was scouted at the YMCA by the Detroit Pistons. Mr. Howell was a pillar in the community by dedicating his life to coaching and teaching children of all ages for 23 years in several sports. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a mentor-father figure to many in his community. He gave of himself tirelessly to everyone that surrounded him. It was shown by his compassion and love for his fellow man in life and into death by his choice of organ and tissue donation. He is survived by: Mandy(Raymundo) Martinez Howell, Mary (Jesus) Ramirez Howell, Jennifer (Robert) Kise Howell, Gregory ( Susan) Britt Howell, Four grandchildren: Allyson Kise Howell, Reyna Martinez Howell, Caleb Britt Howell, Megan Smith, two great grandchildren, one special Brother in Law Clarence(John) Carroll, two siblings, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 5:00-7:00pm August 22, 2016 at Appalachian Funeral and Cremation Services. 800 E. Watagua Ave. Johnson City TN, 37601.
