I have kept the faith…..2 Timothy 4:7Donald Ray Herzog, 54, of Elizabethton, TN died Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a courageous battle.He grew up in Castro Valley, CA with his Dad, Robert, who preceded him in death. They enjoyed camping and fishing together.Don's occupation was a truck driver for over 30 years. He was most comfortable when he was driving, meeting all his road friends and seeing the beauty of this country.If you knew Don, you knew how much he loved football. He grew up watching the Indianapolis Colts with his Dad. He has a collection of Colts memorabilia and never missed a game.Don is survived by his wife, Flora. Neither of them had ever married until they met at the age of 46. Love is worth waiting for and their adventures began. Through it all, they always supported and loved each other. She was holding him as he took his last breath.He loved his extended family- Raymond and Melanie Powers; Lanie, Daleigh and Dimmy Stapp; Matthew and Destiny McPeak; Chris and Susan Smith; Robin Stupakewicz, Darryl "Pops" Whitaker, and Courtney Hall.There is no way to list all of his friends, but please know he loved each and every one of you.Heartfelt “thanks” to everyone at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Lifecare Center, Amdysis and Heavenly Sonshine for caring for Don during his illness.Honoring Don’s wishes, he will be cremated and his family will have a gathering of friends to celebrate his life in the near future. Those who knew Don and would like to attend, are welcome to come and share memories once a date has been set.Finally, and most importantly, Don loved the Lord. He was in a wheelchair the last two years and had trouble walking.
