Dennis Eugene Smith

Dennis Eugene Smith, age 76, of Johnson City passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.  A native of Lebanon, PA, he was a son of the late Ed and Mary Ellen Fox Smith.  Mr. Smith was a United States Marine veteran serving during the Vietnam War.  He retired as a Conductor from the Clinchfield Railroad.  Mr. Smith was a member of Brick Christian Church, Watauga, TN where he was an active member.  He loved Science Hill Hilltoppers Sports and could be found at many of their games volunteering.  Mr. Smith and his wife were foster parents, and fostered over 200 children.  He was known by everyone as a wonderful Christian and loved to cook for his family and friends.In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Fuchs Smith; and a brother, Roger Smith.Survivors include four sons, Dennis E. Smith, Jr., and wife Bunny, Raleigh, NC, Daniel Smith and wife Mandy, Jonesborough, John Smith and wife Elizabeth, and David Smith and wife Julie, all of Johnson City; daughter, Libby Wise, and husband Jay, Johnson City; grandchildren, Dennis Smith III, Tyler Smith, Layton Smith, Kara Ragan, Kevin Smith, Andrew Smith, Sarah Smith, Malik Stephens, Brooke Davis, Jacob Smith and Matthew Smith; brother, Edward L Smith; sisters, Sandra Hansell and Linda Smith, all of Lebanon, PA; cousins Susie and Ronnie Fisher, Lebanon, PA; niece, Evelyn Hart and husband Mike, Watauga, TN.The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, April 1, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Mr. Ernie Depew, minister officiating.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery.  Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 A.M.
