Christine "Granny" Jenkins Riddle

July 16, 1936 - April 28, 2020

Christine was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Noah Jenkins, Sr. and Nora Nichols Jenkins. Christine was a homemaker and formerly worked as a cafeteria worker at Daniel Boone High School from 1975-86, and then in the dietary department at North Side Hospital from 1986 until her retirement in 1996. She attended Wayland Freewill Baptist Church. Christine enjoyed collecting cookbooks, bells and spoons. Granny loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Riddle, in 1975, two brothers, Eugene and Noah Jenkins, Jr., four sisters, Hez Hunt, Ann Glover, Louise Austin and Bessie Brummitt, and a very special great-grandaughter, Addy Hancock. Granny is survived by three daughters, Janie Foister, Gray, Doris Barnett and husband Jarvis, Teresa Freeman and husband David, all of Johnson City; one son, Wayne Riddle and wife Susan, Rathdrum, ID; one sister, Pauline Gallamore and husband Bill, Paris, TN; nine grandchildren, Tina Haney and husband Shannon, Stacey Hancock and husband Erron, Chad Barnett and wife Sabrina, Cody Barnett, Josh Lahti and wife Samantha, Amber Parrick and husband Tanner, Matt Riddle, Dayla Freeman, Dylan Freeman and wife Josie; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ryne, Seth and Caleb Haney, Brylee and Reagan Hancock, Gabby, Hayden, Brayden and Anna Belle Barnett, Destiny Carty, Lyrica, Lectra and Bryson Lahti, Rowan Freeman; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 4, 2020, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Dexter Brummitt, Rev. Danny Osborne, and Rev. Bo Castle, officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Morning View Cemetery, Bluff City. Pallbearers will be Chad and Cody Barnett, Dylan Freeman, Shannon Haney, Erron Hancock and Eric Brummitt. The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. It is encouraged for those who choose to attend, please continue practicing social distancing and wear masks if possible. Those who prefer to make memorial donations in-lieu-of flowers, please do so in Christine’s name to The American Heart Association, 3101 Browns Mill Rd., STE 6, PMB 321, Johnson City, TN 37604.
