Charles Butler Poe, 84, of the Gray community, passed away surrounded by his family in the comfort of their home on Friday, November 13, 2020 in Elizabethton. He was born on April 28, 1936 to the late Frank Poe and Ethel (Riddle) Cole in Mountain City. Charles proudly served his Country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. While in the Army Charles received many medals including, Armed Forces Expeditionary Metal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was of the Christian Faith. Charles retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster after over 30 years of dedicated service. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Poe; and nephew, Jeff Poe. Survivors include his brother Marcus Poe and wife Shelby; nephews, Steve Poe and wife Tammi, Mark Poe and wife Jennifer, Paul Poe and James Poe; grandchildren, Kristin and Craig Patchell; great-grandchildren, Santino Patchell, Craig Anthony Patchell, and Gianna Patchell. Charles will be laid to rest at Mountain Home National Cemetery. The Patchell and Poe family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Avalon Hospice.
