Bruce Edward "Eddie" Taylor, age 64, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, June 9, 2015 at the James H. Quillen V.A Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A lifelong native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Arnold David and Billie Frances Cunningham Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during Vietnam. He was employed by the State of Tennessee as a Property Assessor. Mr. Taylor was a member of Princeton Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City, and a member of the Johnson City Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Taylor loved his church and church family. He was proud to be a veteran and loved his flag and his country. He was a wonderful husband and father. Mr. Taylor was the first to offer help or give to someone in need. He was known as "Gramps" to his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by a brother, Lee Allen Taylor; Granddaughter, Sierra Bell Zacharias. Survivors include his wife, Glenna Hunt Taylor, Johnson City; three daughters, Tina Range and husband James, April Briggs and husband Brian, and Sherri Wallace, all of Jonesborough; three sons, Larry "Buck" Balthis and wife Tena, Jonesborough; Kevin Brian Balthis and wife Robin, Johnson City, and Eddie Taylor, Kingsport. Twelve grandchildren, Three great grandchildren; sister, Jackie Charlton and husband Melvin, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Taylor will be conducted at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 14, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Dallas Gregg and Rev. Charlie Frazier. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Randy English officiating. Active pallbearers will be Rusty Wallace, Dusty Wallace, Trey Balthis, Melvin Charlton, Steven Martin, and Cameron Whaley. Honorary pallbearer will be Colbey Briggs. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. Monday to travel in procession together to the cemetery.
