Billy Wayne Bates

Billy Wayne Bates, 69, Cumberland, KY, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.Billy was born in Whitesburg, KY to the late Noble Bates and Rhoda Jones. Billy was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Forgiven Ministries in Whitesburg, KY. Billy was a truck driver. He had a real passion for big rigs and driving them across the country. Billy was an amazing driver who always kept his trucks in pristine condition. After retirement, his next love was for University of Kentucky basketball and his cat, Willie. Survivors include his son, Patrick Bates of Jacksboro, TN; daughter, Vicki Bates of Benham, KY; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ethan and Kera Collins of Benham, KY; sister, Vicki Lowe and husband R.W. of Norton, VA; step mother, Pauline Bates; siblings, Jay Bates of Whitesburg, KY, Kathy Mullins of Whitesburg, KY, Joe Bates of Whitesburg, KY and Euna Faye Caudill of Lafollette, TN; special nieces, Jill Shoffner and Rebecca Large.The graveside service for Billy will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in Mountain Home National Cemetery Historic Site. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 P.M. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff at James H.
