Mrs. Betty Ann Carter, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, 85, Boones Creek community of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her home following an extended illness. Betty was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. She was the daughter of the late William Hobart and Clara Barton Harrison. Betty was a 1948 graduate of Boones Creek High School and a 1950 graduate of Johnson City Business College. Upon graduation, she was employed as a teller with First Peoples Bank and continued in her banking career for fifty years. Due to her work ethic and warm personality, she was promoted into Customer Service where she took great pride in remembering each customer by name. Following her retirement, Betty worked alongside of her husband Clyde at the family business, Carter and Carter Machinery. She greeted everyone who came through the door with a smile and was loved by all. Betty was a lifelong member of Highland Church of Christ. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher and found joy in teaching children the love of God. For many years, she chose to serve the church by preparing communion, seeing that members of the church who were sick or grieving received cards and flowers, and serving as treasurer of the Sisters of Faith women's group. Outside of family and business, vegetable and flowering gardening and cooking and canning brought Betty the most joy. She was a well know seamstress, sewing anything from curtains to cheerleading uniforms. When someone was sick or bedridden, one knew that Betty would be by their side as long as she was needed. She loved trips to the beach with her girls and trips out west and Amish country with her husband. Betty is survived by the love of her life, and husband of nearly sixty years, Clyde W. Carter; her daughter, Mary Beth Carter Larimer and husband Jeff, Gray; two granddaughters, Jennie Pearl Rice Good and husband Danny, Gray, Erin Carter Larimer Brant and husband Daniel, Bowmantown; two sisters, Helen Robinson Cox and Carolyn York; an adoring niece, Melissa Ann Robinson; several extended loving family members; Angels and sisters in Christ, who enjoyed their time with "Miss Betty": Ginger Mercer and Lusetta Slagle. The celebration of life service will be conducted Friday, May 13, 2016, at 7:00 P.M., in the sanctuary of Highland Church of Christ, with Byron Paddock, Minister, officiating. Special music will be provided by the church choir. The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the church. The graveside committal service will be held Saturday, at 10:00 A.M. in Highland Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Earl Anderson, Larry Bacon, J.D. Hensley, Kevin Paddock, Curtis Proffitt, Chad Sanders, Jack Southerland, and Steve Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the congregation of Highland Church of Christ. Dear Clyde and Mary Beth, We are so sorry for your loss. I loved Betty so much. She and mom were such good friends all those years working at the bank and I remember, especially when I was little, and loved to go to the bank she always made me feel special. Highland CC won't seem the same without Betty there. I know she will be missed by many in so many ways. You are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you! In Christ, Steve and Kay Carpenter
