Betty Jean Cousins

Betty Jean Francis Shell Lilly Cousins passed away at her home Saturday, September 12, 2015. Jean was born to Lewis and Mary Sheets Francis in Mitchell County North Carolina on May 5, 1943. Her mother passed away in childbirth. Dana and Inas Shell raised Jean as one of their own. The Shell family moved to Johnson City when Jean was two. Jean was blessed to be the baby sister in two families. She was predeceased by all four of her parents, her Francis siblings: Clifford France, Ralph Francis, Georgie Cloud and Bonnie Hughes as well as Heber Shell and Howard Shell and her first husband A.J. Lilly. Jean is survived by her husband of twenty three years, Gus Cousins, her daughters Mitzi Privette and husband Donald and Wendy Lilly as well as two grandsons; Joah and Cody Privette. She also leaves behind two brothers; Roy Shell and Walt Shell and many Francis and Shell nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Johnson City Wednesday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 P.M. for the service.
