Anna Kate Keys Butt, age 97 died in her sleep on February 20, 2016 at Broadmore Senior Living of Johnson City, Tennessee. Kate was born December 18, 1918 in Limestone, Tennessee, the daughter of Guy and Mary Keys. People that knew Kate, liked her. She possessed a sweet spirit and a contagious smile, as well as genuine care for everyone she met. Her faith drew her to active participation at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Her Bible was a constant companion. She belonged to the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. In April, 1942, Kate met and married J. Frank Butt while attending business school in Johnson City. They were happily married for 53 years, until his death in Dec.1995. Kate worked as secretary for the Girl Scouts in Johnson City, then in the purchasing department at the Veterans Administration. She belonged to Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Oak Park Garden Club. Family was extremely important to Kate. She is survived by children, Janice and Joe, daughter-in-law, Margaret, granddaughters, Shandra Lynch and Andrea Venn; and her great grandchildren, Amelia Lynch and Everett Lynch, were the joy of her life. Her love and caring extended to her nieces and nephews, as well. She knew everyone's birthday and wedding date, even though they are spread all over the world. The Funeral service for Mrs. Butt will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 14, 2016 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Patty Muse officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
