Pastor John Hitechew, age 59, of Gray, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Friday, March 29, 2019 from the Johnson City Medic al Center. A native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Wayne and Annabelle Heaton Hitechew. Pastor Hitechew was the Pastor of Word Fellowship, Gray, and was owner and operator of Jack Miller Body Shop in Johnson City. A very passionate man for Christ, John was active in various ministries throughout the Tri-Cities. Before becoming pastor of Word Fellowship he served as pastor as Mayberry United Methodist Church, as a Gideon and was the founder of the Circuit Riders Motorcycle ministry. Pastor John sat on the board of directors for Coalition for Kids (C4K) and was currently serving on the board for the United Emmaus Community, where he also served in numerous capacities within the Emmaus Community. Pastor John was currently serving as Spiritual Director for the Emmaus Community this year
Pastor Hitechew is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat Hitechew, of the home; mother-in-law, Rena Blazer, of the home; brother, Harry Hitechew and wife Phyllis, Gray; sister, Rita Hitechew, Jonesborough.; sister-in-law, Brenda Blazer, Jacksonville, North Carolina. Several aunts, uncles nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Also, his cat, Trouble, with whom he had a love-hate relationship.
A Celebration of a Life well lived for Pastor John Hitechew will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Word Fellowship, 225 Sunset Street, Gray, TN, with Pastor Hagan McClellan, Pastor Donnie Humphrey, and Pastor Randy Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 until 6:45 p.m. in the sanctuary of Word Fellowship.
It was his wishes to be cremated and be buried with his wife Pat upon her passing. Honorary pallbearers will be his employees, deacons of the church, close friends and family.
