Mattie "Jody" Marie Yandles

September 20, 1939 ~ February 17, 2019 (age 79)

Mattie “Jody” Marie Yandles, 79, Johnson City, walked through Heaven’s Gates on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Jody was a native of Boones Creek, and a daughter of the late Charlie and Nora Gibson Hurt.

Mattie fought the good fight, she kept the faith. Mattie loved going to church, and was a member of Grace of God Holiness Church. She also loved having her family all together, painting, traveling and experiencing new adventures, so we are sure she is enjoying the one she’s on now.

In addition to her parents, Jody was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Yandles, Sr., two sons, Johnny Yandles and George W. Yandles, Jr., her sister, Josephine McKinney, her brother, Daniel “Dink” Hurt, and a great-grandson, Gavin.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Dinna Bennett and husband James, Geraldine Roark, all of Johnson City, Jerry Yandles, Elizabethton, Dr. Joan Yandles and husband Keith Ehrich, Warner Robins, GA; eight grandchildren, who Mattie adored, Christina, Atarah, Melissa, Olivia, Lori Ann, Roxie, Katie and Mikey; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her best friends, Mary Lee Godsey (painting partner), Rosalee Langley and Bill Head.

The family would like to express a special “thank you” to home health team Gordon and Keith, and the Hospice team at Johnson City Medical Center Hospice

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Bro. Doug Wagner, officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

The graveside committal service will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 A.M.
