John D. Barnes, 89, of Johnson City, passed away at his residence Sunday, June 9, 2019.
John was a Carter County native and was a son of the late Bentley and Francola Dunham Barnes.
John was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from MCI then worked for the City of Kingsport. John was also a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed cooking, barbequing and woodworking. John loved spending time with his family, especially his 5 grandsons and looked forward to the birth of his great granddaughter due this month.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis Edwards Barnes and son John David Barnes II.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Julie Barnes Britton & husband Tim of Johnson City; grandchildren, Tab, Andy & Ben Britton, Tripp & Cade Barnes; sister, Deanie Barnes Ferguson & husband Mark; several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service with military honors for John will be Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:30 A.M. at Washington County Memory Gardens. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:20 A.M.
