Jewel J. Hill Huckaba, 86, Johnson City, died Monday, June 3, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City, following a lengthy illness.
Jewel was a native and lifelong Carter County resident. She was a daughter of the late Jess and Florence Simerly Hill.
Jewel worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, receiving her certification in January of 1989, where she worked several years in private healthcare followed by several years with NHC.
She was of the Church of God faith.
Jewel loved her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as her many pets, and enjoyed flowers and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Huckaba, in 2009, son-in-law, Jackie L. Shipley, granddaughter, Chanda Shipley, sister, Wanda Babb, and step-father, Manuel Avad.
Jewel is survived by her son, Kevin Huckaba and wife Donna; daughters, Pam McCurry and husband Kenneth, Kimberly Estep and husband Rick; grandchildren, Lori A. Hamilton and husband Terry, Jonathan Huckaba and wife Amy, Casey B. Shipley and wife Shawnta, Joshua B. Estep and wife Whitney, J. Brooke Tolley and husband Jeremiah; great-grandchildren, Trista B. Shipley, Bryson Shipley, Hayden Shipley, Samuel Hamilton, Noah Hamilton, Addison Estep, Harper Estep and Abraham Tolley; sisters, Lois Graham, Shirley Hoss, Gwen Perry; brother, Denver Hill.
The family would like to thank the staff of NHC Healthcare, especially Kristy Draper, Tabitha Miller, Sam White, Chris White, and Shirley Eden.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 6:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Lusk, officiating. Special music will be provided by the Singing Dugger Family.
The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 4:00-6:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be conducted Friday at 10:30 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from grandchildren. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:00 A.M. to proceed to the cemetery.
