Janice Katherine Jewell Roark, 72, Boones Creek, passed away Tuesday, January 08, 2019, at her residence, following a brief illness.
Janice was born in Johnson City, raised in the Central Community of Carter County, and lived most of her adult life in Boones Creek. She was the daughter of the late George Stanley Jewell, Jr. and Lena Pearl Range Jewell.
Janice was a 1964 graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended East Tennessee State University.
She retired from the Washington County School System, where she was a secretary and bookkeeper, following thirty-three years of service.
Janice was a member of Fountain of Life Bible Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Roark, in 2007.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Sherri Dye and husband Richard, Boones Creek; her son, Michael H. Byrd, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Abigail and Lucas Dye, Boones Creek; cousins, Helen Cochran, Georgia, Carolyn Price, Alabama, Beverly Williams, Limestone; her loving pet, Sassy.
The graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 1:00 P.M., in Mountain Home National Cemetery, with Dr. Matthew A. Young, officiating. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 P.M. Thursday.
