Ivan “Peanut” Williams, 63, Johnson City, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Peanut was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Rev. Ivan Fay and Frances Marie Kennedy Williams. Peanut was a Vietnam Army veteran, and a Certified Nursing Assistant, working at the former Johnson City Memorial Hospital and Asbury Center. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling. In addition to his parents, Peanut was preceded in death by his wife Judy, a grandson, Omar Williams, a sister, Kathy Phillips and four brothers, Dorsey, Johnny, Eddie and Mark Williams. He is survived by five children, Joy Lynn Becker, Crystal Dawn Bailey & husband Roger, Elizabethton, Johnny Ray Williams, Jeffrey Allyn Williams and fiancé Shertika, Jason Aaron Williams and fiancé Sherry, all of Johnson City; two sisters, Hilda Osborne and husband Chuck, Jonesborough, Rita Johnson and husband Ronnie, Unicoi; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
The family will celebrate the life of Peanut with a memorial service on Friday, December 21, 2018, at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Case, officiating. The family will share memories as they receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 P.M. in the parlor of the funeral home. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at a later date at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
