George Leeroy Whistine, aka “T-Roy,” passed away October 2nd, 2018 after a short battle with lung cancer. T-Roy was born May 5th, 1962, in Johnson City, TN, to the late Jack and Helen Whistine. After retiring from Rainbow Bakery, he continued to work as a painter/carpenter and worked for the Johnson City Press. T-Roy was survived by his three children Justin Whistine and daughter in-law Pamela, Alison and Alex Whistine, three grandchildren Kina and Luna Whistine and Enzo Weems, girlfriend Lena Weems, and three siblings Ginny McGee, Pete Whistine and wife Debbie, Phil Whistine and wife Shirley, and sister in-law Gail Whistine, as well as an extraordinary amount of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. T-Roy was proceeded in death by his siblings Bud, Bill, David, Becky, Jane and Sue and aunt Thelma. T-Roy had a life-long love affair of sweets and could light up a room with his contagious sense of humor and smile. He was an amazing father and grandfather as well as a companion, and a friend. Funeral services will be held at Appalachian Funeral Home on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at 2PM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Mark Mears officiating. The family will receive friends from 12pm-2pm with graveside to follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens 3033 S. Roan Street Johnson City, TN 3760.
