Gene Oliver, age 71, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Banner Elk, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Bower Rufus and Julia McGuire Oliver. Mr. Oliver had previously worked for Siemens as a Machine Operator and loved his job. He loved the Lord and was a firm Christian believer. Mr. Oliver was known as a jokster, and loved to make people laugh. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by a daughter, Gena Oliver; and a brother, Larry Oliver.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Oliver, Johnson City; six children, Barrie Oliver, Jr., Johnson City, Beth Curlee, Georgia, Heather Barnett, Lindsay Gray, Melissa Guinn, all of Johnson City, and Larry Guinn, Jr., Watauga, TN; a brother, Jeff Oliver. Special niece, Angel Goodman. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Oliver will be conducted at a later date.
